Jaw Joint Treatment

Craniomandibular Dysfunction (CMD), and its importance in a holistic treatment approach, has become important because of its clear systemic relevance.

The jaw joint, a crucial joint of the body, and the only mobile connection between head and front trunk, is a highly sensitive and functional system through its immediate proximity to the vestibular system (balance system and inner ear) and nasal cavities.

Treatment of CMD or any dysfunction of the masticatory system in general should not be limited to only the treatment of the symptoms.

The following can cause dysfunction of the jaw joints:

  • Malocclusion or misalignment
  • Mismatch of tooth surfaces
  • Grinding of teeth
  • Clenching of teeth
  • Increased pressure of the tongue against the palate
  • Braces and mouth guard
  • Tooth extraction
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Atlas misalignment
  • Malposition of the pelvis

The complexity of the connections between the neurological control of the pelvis with that of the lower jaw, and the structural connection of jaw joint and head joint, often cause tension on different levels of the body system with significant consequences and symptoms such as:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Tinnitus
  • Blockage of cervical vertebrae and lumbar vertebrae
  • Back and neck pain
  • Radiation of pain in the arm
  • Knee problems

In view of this, we treat CMD with osteopathy and manual therapy.
We gladly cooperate with your treating orthodontist or dentist.
